World Amateur Radio Day is celebrated every year on April 18 to commemorate the founding of the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) on that day in 1925.

Ham radio is a hobby that involves using radio waves for non-commercial purposes such as communication, experimentation and self-training. Amateur radio operators use a variety of equipment to communicate with each other, including handheld radios, mobile radios and satellite radios.
