Almost three years ago, the Federal Communications Commission approved the use of the FM mode on citizens band, hoping to create a new market at the request of radio manufacturers.

Retail sales of new FM CB radios were slow to appear, leading many to believe the U.S. advent of FM CB, already used on a worldwide basis, was too little, too late for the hobby and the industry.

President Electronics’ President George FCC citizens band radio is the first rig that includes all modes for CB — AM, SSB and the new FM mode. That’s the equivalent of 160 channels — 40 AM, 40 FM, 40 lower sideband and 40 upper sideband. CB radio has never been so versatile! | Photo courtesy of President Electronics

I love talking on CB radio as well as other license-free radio services. I have been writing about CB radio for National Communications Magazine for several years.
