GMRS: Licensees comment on FCC's linked repeaters guidance
Many like the idea of removing linked GMRS repeaters while others will fight to the end for them
In the three dozen years that National Communications Magazine has covered scanning, CB radio and all hobby radio, no subject, no article has generated as much comment and notice as the information we posted almost two weeks ago detailing how the Federal Communications Commission plans to crack down on the use of linked repeaters in the General Mobile Radio Service.
No sooner than our article was posted, the GMRS community on social media — and on the air — exploded with comments on the subtle change on the FCC’s website about how the agency considers internet linking of repeaters to be in violation of its Part 95 rules, which govern GMRS.
A petition on change.org asks that the FCC change its mind and allow the linking of GMRS repeaters. | Image courtesy of change.org
