There have been so many scanners made over the years. There have been some real winners, there have been some real dogs and there have been many that were so unique that those of us who have been in the hobby long enough will never forget them.

Now that the market for vintage scanners on eBay, Facebook Marketplace and other online venues offers many of these radios, a lot of us have been able to catch up buying some of these relics of the past. Let’s take a look at some memorable scanners and why they stood out, and why many of us wanted one when they first came out.

Tennelec scanners were made by a nuclear instrument company in the 1970s. Read below to learn why this was a trend-setting radio.
